STATUS OF OCSLHA AND SURVEY QUESTIONS

For the past several years, the planning and delivery of professional development for speech-language pathologists has been a collaborative effort between Oakland Schools and the Oakland County Speech Language Hearing Association (OCSLHA).  This has been particularly useful for SLPs because this collaboration allowed for reduced workshop fees for OCSLHA members.  Currently, Oakland Schools Special Education Department policy is to offer PD for a reduced flat rate for all participants, regardless of membership in OCSLHA.

For this reason, OSCLHA membership dues will be suspended for 2009-10 while the OCSLHA Board considers how to move forward as an association.  The Board has decided to use the 2009-10 school year to consider whether to reorganize as an independent non-profit organization.  The OCSLHA Website will continue to be available and offer information and handouts from previous workshops.  It will include links to private therapy, employment opportunities, therapy tips, and all Oakland County school districts, government and professional organizations.

Regardless of the status of OCSLHA, Oakland Schools will continue to plan, develop and deliver PD that meets the needs of SLPs in the county.  Professional development relevant to SLPs can be accessed via the Oakland Schools ecatalog at http://www.oakland.k12.mi.us/ECatalogHome/tabid/1859/Default.aspx

In reconsidering the purpose of OCSLHA and its relevance as an organization, the current OCSLHA Board members request that you please take part in the following survey.  Responses will be accepted at Susan.Swartz@oakland.k12.mi.us until June 1, 2009.  Your responses will be forwarded to the OCSLHA Board.

What do you think the purpose of OCSLHA is?

What can OCSLHA do to benefit you in your current role as an SLP?

Would you be willing to pay annual OCSLHA membership dues of $20 – 25?

If necessary, would you be willing to pay an additional registration fee for an OCSLHA-sponsored speaker?

Do you prefer half-day, full-day, or after school presentations?

Would you be willing to attend OCSLHA presentations at locations other than Oakland Schools?
